THE JOURNEY OF DEATH

The journey to death is an individual journey,
even when accompanied by loved ones and medical experts.
We may be angry or self-pity may surface.
"Why me? Why now?" we cry.
Who to blame, maybe.

The effect of the imminence of death brings new priorities.
What are the truly important things in life?
How to see the best in the world around us?
The imminence of death brings a new focus
on the wonders of the present.

The cancer situation has developed, but not advantageously.
There are different rules under the shadow of death.
We can look back on our lives and be grateful for what they did include.
We can look forward and realise that, whilst no one knows whatcomes after life
it seems unlikely that there can be nothing, and
we, Europeans, are so lucky to have lived at all
in a time and place of prosperity and peace.
We should be dazzled by our good fortune,
even if we have to leave a bit early.

A few final thoughts.
Don't fret about the state of the world.
Nature will recover despite what we do to it, though perhaps we may not.
Every person has made difference to the world.
A smile and a word is all it takes.

Whether death is the end of "self"
does not really matter at this stage.
Our course is committed!
