HE SHALL COME TO JUDGE,

FROM THENCE HE SHALL COME TO JUDGE THE LIVING AND THE DEAD
as spelt out in words attributed to Jesus at Matthew Chapter 24
though we can be assured these words never passed his lips
Even if many of his sentiments are reflected
no one noted down the words he said.

(From an Internet source)
Various theories have been developed as people have tried to work out what will happen.
Some Christians believe that all believers will suddenly be removed from the earth
and will join God in heaven along with all Christians who have died.
At that moment, Jesus will return to take control of the earth and will reign for 1,000 years.

Others interpret the reference to a period of 1,000 years differently
– seeing this as a time of just and peaceful leadership of the world by the Christian church
which will be followed by an apocalypse of violent evil.
Jesus will then step in to end this time of terror.

A third view is that the symbolic events set out in Revelation do not foresee specific events.
Instead, the return of Jesus will coincide with the end of human life on earth
as we know it now and the beginning of an eternity of love, joy and peace
in the new heavens and the new earth with God.

Basically it is all conjecture, based on the desire of a persecuted people
for an end to all their troubles and a judgement on others,
who did not share their views or tribal association.

However it is a scenario on which many base their hope and doctrine.
Such beliefs are major features of the more extreme Christian sects.
who perhaps reflect the situation of those ancient believers
though in a modern setting

We are coming to the realisation that the end of the world will come,
either through our own neglect in disregarding the environment,
or through global warfare of an atomic or biological nature,
or through the impact of another wandering asteroid,
or, eventually, as our sun itself dies.

None of these involve judgement or divine intervention,
nor do they directly impact my brief existence,
of three score years and a few decades,
in any practical sense.
