Lack of Moral Leadership

Our politicians and other leaders are generally distrusted,
and seen to be featherinfg their own nests,
rather than providing sound leadership.

Without a viable form of moral leadership and direction
the cause of common human survival seems untenable.

This was a role occupied by religion on the national stage,
but religious division and mutual mistrust has undermined
any global role for speaking morality
from a religious perspective.

On the global stage, religion has been shown to be a broken reed
dogged by the problems of conflicting hierarchies and dogma;
dogged by schismatic, threatening, fundamentalism,

Yet surely some similar form of moral leadership is needed
if humanity is to survive the problems that it faces,
despite the opposition of those who brandish power
in the self-interest of personal security.
