The pundits come up with a variety of theories;
from matching the time of Jonah being in the whale
to being long enough to prove that he was dead
but not so long as to generate corruption.
It seems such an important gap to some. Why?
Maybe it is only to emphasise its material reality;
something set in the true fabric of time.
For can we really, in our enlightened days,
believe in a supernatural magical event,
performed by an absent, yet loving, God
who does nothing to curb the horrors
and evils of our world?
If he, or she, exists at all
why does he, or she,
not do anything
effective?
