CHRISTMAS

He came that we might have life
Risking all for love of us
For you and me
That baby

He came to join us in our poverty
Assuming human vulnerability
As he was sent
Obediently

He came and lived, spoke and died
Messenger and prophet
God's awesome power
Yet tenderly

He came to show us how things are
To show us what is real
New concepts of
Divinity

He came to challenge and confront us
Undermine comfortable theology
Unsettle fixed ideas
Reality

He came and called out “Follow me”
Today to do what he did then
Risking all like him
Courageously

Is Father Christmas all that's left
Gifts and presents, turkey stuffing
One morning hour alone
For that baby.
