Many visualise their god as intervening in this world;
as answering prayer at their demand,
as guiding their every move,
even as predestining
their lives.
The concept of freewill is denied.
Divinity carries every responsibility.
Supernatural events are not then unusual,
merely evidence of godly intervention.
BUT
Such a God is then responsible for all the horrors around us;
the torture of innocents, polution, poverty, death and destruction;
rather than being the Good Shepherd
of which our doctine speaks.
It would seem apparent that the concept of a good God
is incompatible with the idea of a God which intervenes,
a God which takes responsibility for Creation,
even a God which responds to human prayer.
If we follow "goodness" in divinity,
we can not also accept intervention by divinity.
The supernatural and magical are incompatible,
with a divinity which is loving and lovable.
Yet, strangely, this is the doctrine
which lies at the base of orthdoxy;
which thus undermines
its credibility.
Christianity, and other religions, needs to find
a realistic explanation for spirituality,
for the divine and for its founder,
before its role and existence
has any justification.
